There is an age discrepancy.
Here comments from Helen Gibson, correspondent, note of October 31, 2011:
I've looked this one over. I found the registration of her death and the information was given by a non family member.
The grave stone photo appears to be Lucy Tupper, daughter of James Smith Tupper and Mary Jane Creelman. Short of the year not agreeing with what we already have, the rest of the date is consistent with Lucy, d/o James Smith and Mary Jane (Creelman) Tupper - that being Mar 23.
So, as in other cases, I looked at the age stated on the census records and found that her age tracked though the censuses - 1871 and 1881. The 1891 census has her a year younger, but that could just be a function of when the census was done. The 1901 census gives her a birth date of 23 Mar 1864 and I believe that the 1911 census points to her being born in 1864.
Again with a non family member giving the data on the death certificate which agrees with the 1866 date I think it's safe to say that the reporter just didn't know. That would translate into the wrong date being given to the person who carved the gravestone. She's also listed as single on the death registration
