SPRAGUE (Hayward), Ruth Janet - 73, Dartmouth.

It is with deep sadness we announce that Ruth passed away in the QEII Health Sciences Centre on August 5, 2006, after a valiant battle against cancer.

She was a daughter of the late Cory and Minnie (Amos) Hayward.

She is survived by Charles, her loving husband of 51 years, Dartmouth; son, Stephen, Midland, Ont.; daughter, Linda (Mrs. Carl Beck), Delta, B.C.; grandchildren, Christin and Wesley Sprague, and Jonathan and Matthew Beck; sisters, Shirley Lavigne (Bob), Milton, Ont.; Lois Young (Harris), Wolfville; Wilna Miller (Bob), Welland, Ont.; Joan Patton (Ted), Dartmouth; many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a caring, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a cheerful, happy and pleasant person who touched many peoples' lives in a very positive way, and she was a good, sincere and loyal friend. During her lifetime she had many interests, sewing, crafts, cooking, baking, gardening, golfing, curling and lawn bowling to name a few. Her kitchen was her domain and many wonderful things were produced there. She was a stay-at-home mother but did find time to volunteer at several Ottawa and Florida hospitals. Ruth will be greatly missed.

Many thanks are extended to the doctors, nurses and others who very professionally and compassionately cared for Ruth during her illness. There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, with a family service at Mount Hermon Cemetery to follow.

Family flowers only please. Donations in Ruth's memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
