Mr. Sprague was born May 2, 1864 at Theresa, a son ofMarcellus and Liza Countryman Sprague. [His mother's namewas Eliza VanAllen, adopted child of Warner and Philotha(Rockwood) VanAllen. COUNTRYMAN may be the surname of oneof her biological parents, or it may represent some sort ofconfusion, as Eliza's step-brother, Reuben C. VANALLEN wasmarried at least for a time to Anna COUNTRYMAN. Eliza'smaiden name was given as WHEELER in Adelbert's marriagecertificate when he married Eva May Davis.
In early life, he lived in Indiana and Michigan, but mostof his life was spent in Watertown or vicinity. He hadresided here for the last twelve years. He was a formerresident of Theresa and Brownville. By occupation he was amason and carpenter.
Mr. Sprague married three times. His first wife died. Hemarried Miss Flora Pangburn of Alexandria Bay about 1889.They were divorced about 40 years ago [the divorcesupposedly took place in Angola, Indiana - ds]. She died inIndiana about two years ago. After he and his second wifewere divorced, he married Eva M. Davis of Theresa.[According to vital records from the New York StateDepartment of Health, on 31 March 1889, Adelbert Spraguemarried Liza Thomas. No record has been found of hismarriage to Flora Pangburn. Liza Thomas may have been hisfirst wife, and Flora Pangburn the second. [3]
