- From Diana (Eaton) Butcher, correspondent, note of October 26th, 2006
Lieut. American Revolutionary War. MASS. SOLDIERS AND SAILORS IN THE WAR OF THE REVOLUTION: Corporal Capt. Benjamin Blaney's Co., which marched on the Alarm of April 19, 1775, to Watertown, by order of Col. Gardner; service, 1 day; also Lieutenant, in Capt. Nailer Hatch's Co., Lt.-Col. William Bond's (late Gardner's) 37th Reg't, company return dated Malden, Oct. 6, 1775; also 37th reg't, list of officers who had not been commissioned, as returned by Lieut. Colonel William Bond, dated Camp Prospect Hill, Oct. 25, 1775, ordered in Council Oct. 31, 1775, that SAID OFFICERS BE RECOMMENDED TO GEN. WASHINGTON FOR COMMISSIONS IN THE CONTINENTAL ARMY.
According to HIST. GENE. AND BIO. OF EATON FAMILY, by Molyneaux, Lt. Nathan Eaton was a man of great physicial proportions so that it became a proverbial comparison to say "as big as Mr. Nathan Eaton". He was a Minute Man at Malden, Corporal, at Lexington Alarm-1775. Religion: Congregational.

MY NOTES FOR NATHAN'S WIFE, LYDIA LYNDE EATON:

One of the very early DAR applications, with no proofs, had Lydia's maiden name as "Lydia Lynde". But, GENE. BIO. OF THE EATON FAMILIES by Molyneaux gives Lydia's parents as Jonathan and Mary (Damon) Eaton of Wakefield (Reading), MA. I purchased a birth record for this Lydia Eaton, and submitted it with my DAR app. for Lt. Nathan Eaton, but always felt that she was too old to be Nathan's wife (Birth Rec.-Town of Reading: Yr.1740; Vol.1; P.91 for Lydia, dau. of Jonathan and Mary (Damon) Eaton, born 25 Nov 1740). I took all of Jonathan and Mary (Damon) Eatons' lineages back to progenitor, and submitted proofs of allied lines for membership in various organizations, such as Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company.
In 2006, I scanned photos that I'd taken of the Eaton Monument ca. 1975, into my computer, and used the magnifying glass tool. The inscription on the Eaton Monument is: born Sept. 29, 1751 (difficult to read because of erosion of the carved dates, plus a shadow was cast on the enormously tall monument) Keeping in mind that the inscription was based upon the birthdate given posthumously by a descendant, Lydia was could have been baptized in Sept. 1752. But, her birth date is also given as 29 Oct 1752 in various data. This date, could also have been her baptismal date. This latter date is the one used at the Sprague site mentioned below.
I located Lydia and her parents online on Richard E. (Dick) Weber's site, The Sprague Project. I contacted Dick, who in turn contacted a Sprague correspondent, and professional genealogist, James Raywait, of Sutton, WV. James' e-mail response to both of us verified that Lieutenant Nathan Eaton's wife was Lydia Lynde, daughter of Joseph and his cousin, Mary (Lynde) Lynde. James provided verification that the first sentence in these notes for Lydia are correct. Following this, I started all over again with Lydia and built the Lynde and allied Ancestry and Family Group Data.
NOTE: All of my original research results for Lydia (Eaton) dau. Jonathan and Mary (Damon) Eaton remain (at least presently) in my database, because Jonathan Eaton and Lieut. Nathan Eaton both go back to the same progenitor. Therefore, Jonathan and Mary (Damon) Eaton's daughter, Lydia Eaton is still in my file, with no spouse listed. [6]
