BONIFACE, ROBERT Major USAF ( Ret) Sept. 17, 1915 to July4, 2008.
It was only fitting that Robert Boniface, 92, passed awaypeacefully at his home in La Mesa, California on July 4,2008. He was a hero in so many ways with a love for family,country, BBQ's and homemade apple pie. Robert, one ofeleven children, was born on September 17, 1915, to Edythand Alfred Boniface on the family farm in Roosa Gap, NewYork. In 1943, he left his job as a small town policeofficer to join the Army Air Corps / U.S. Air Force. DuringWWII he served as a B-24 Liberator pilot flying anastounding quantity of missions under the worst ofconditions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Crossamong other decorations. While flying through Canada, hemet the love of his life with a wink, Rosemary, who becamehis bride 59 years ago. He participated in the BerlinAirlift and logged over 8000 hours in the air during hismilitary career spanning over 20 years. After hisretirement from the military, Robert spent 20 years withthe U.S. Post Office. A "homebody" by nature and simple manof earth, he found joy in gardening, beekeeping, crosswordpuzzles, reading, wine making and family gatherings. He issurvived by his wife Rosemary and his four children, David(Elia), Mary Dressel (Tom), Margaret Mullen (Dan),Elizabeth Marallo (Don) and seven grandchildren, Robert,Breeze, Lauren, Courtney, Mary, Katherine and Jaren. Hewill be remembered as simple, gentle, kind soul and friendto all. Memorial Service will be held at Fort RosecransNational Cemetery on Thursday, July 17th at 11:00 a.m. [2]
