Notes |
- From William G. Sprague, correspondent, note of August15th, 2007
I attempted to find Glenn C. Nelson I181562. After havingno luck with him, I started to make some educated guessesand there is no doubt in my mind that Glenn C. Nelson,I181562, is in fact Glenn C. Hawley, the product ofAurilla's other husband. The problem is that I first foundhim at the age of 8 residing with relatives. Aurilla wasnot to be found and I have a feeling that perhaps she haddied or disappeared by 1900. The stone for Glenn C. I181562is adjacent to his mother's stone and reads: Glenn C. 1892– 1937 Sgt. Co. E 7th Supply Train Motor.
It is worth noting that the Sprague family stone for SabraS. H., Martha L., and J. Oliver Sprague has only the wordSPRAGUE on the face of the family stone and the headstonesactually contain the names and dates of these individuals. On the back side of this same Sprague family stone isinscribed the words HAWLEY and NELSON and in the ground onthat side of the stone is where Aurilla and Glenn C. havetheir headstones containing their names and dates. This isobviously the source for the Beaverkill Valley book thatAurilla married both a Hawley and a Nelson. I think theyjust picked the wrong spouse for Glenn C.
So here is why I believe Glenn C. I181562 was a Hawley andnot a Nelson:
