Ezra Brainerd was a merchant, a miller, a Postmaster,J.P. a State Legislator.History p. 891, "went to Georgiawhen a young man and in 1830 came North, settling in DoverOhio. . . .he was Postmaster for many years and wasrepeatedy elected Justice of the Peace in which latteroffice he would seldom let disputing neighbors come to asuit, often affecting compromises paying out of his ownpocket the price of the object in dispute. He was electedrepresentative of the county and served in the StateLegislature from 1847 to 1849. He was a Whig in his timeand his ancestor before him were among the leadingpoliticians. In business he was energetic and progressiveand carried on milling and merchandising for years.Hepurchased of the Talbot Bros. the large mill which stillstands on the banks of the Stillwater, it being the oldestmill in Tuscarawas Co. although in a delapidated condition. . . son George now lives near this mill, on the farm onwhich his father resided."
