Chester graduated from Tulia High School in 1936. InSep. 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. In Jun. 1941he was promoted to corporal and was assigned to the 38thInfantry Service Company at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. In Jan. 1942, he was a member of the 8th Army Corps at CampBowie, Brownwood, Texas. He was transferred to Fort KnoxKentucky in March of 1942 and back to Fort Sam Houston inJuly of that same year. April 1943, he was at CampMcCoy, Wisconsin and held the rank of Tech Sergeant. In Oct. 1943 he was sent to the European Theatre ofOperations as a member of the 9th Army and served in thefollowing campaigns: Northern France, Normandy,Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennese. He wasdischarged in Aug. 1945. [4, 6]
