Family stone at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Union Corners Road, Orange Co., NY Contributor: Sprague, William G. Per William G. Sprague: I walked this cemetery (St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Union Corners Road, Florida, NY) four times and was not able to locate the marker for Grover C. Sprague Sr., which I knew was in there since it identified this cemetery for interment in his obituary. I realized that he had to be in his wife’s plot since everybody in this cemetery is Polish and in fact many of the older stones are written in Polish. It was only then that I went back to the top of the hill and oldest part of the cemetery and found the large Wozniak Family Stone. This represents his wife’s family plot and both she (Roselia) and several of her relatives (most written in polish and even the phrase “Perpetual Care” was written in Polish) were also in this plot. I figured a photo of the family stone would be an easy way for anybody looking for the smaller markers to find them. In front of the Wozniak Family Stone are the two smaller side by side markers of Grover C. Sprague and his wife Roselia Wozniak. To date, I have gone back and not been able to connect Roselia with her parents yet as the names are so mixed up, but I have some more research to do and perhaps I may be able to get the interment date on Roselia and see if there is a local obituary. I am sure that both Grover and Roselia died in Ramsey NJ, but since I did find his obituary, there is a chance hers will be printed locally also. August 2010 | Saint Joseph's Cemetery | Located |
